Rain, Not Lightning, Takes Sunday Headlines At Thunder Mountain Speedway; STSS Event Now Sept. 23

By May 28, 2018News

CENTER LISLE, NY – It was rain, not lightning, in the headlines at Thunder Mountain Speedway on Sunday.

Significant rainfall and a forecast for continued evening showers forced the postponement of the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco ‘Lightning on the Mountain’ event at the three-eighths-mile oval.

A new date of Sunday, Sept. 23 was announced for the program, headlined by a 50-lap, $5,000-to-win event for the big-block/small-block Modifieds of the STSS Halmar International North Region.

“Unfortunately the weather didn’t allow us to get in what would have been an outstanding show on Sunday,” STSS organizer Brett Deyo said. “The Spoonhower family worked well into the overnight hours on the track surface and the response from racers and fans was strong.

“We couldn’t beat all-day rain. With the crowded summer schedule, we felt a fall make-up date was a better fit.”

In September, the STSS Modifieds will be joined by STSS Crate 602 Sportsman North Region ($1,000 to win) and Street Stocks ($1,000 to win).

The Short Track Super Series now heads to Big Diamond Speedway in Minersville, Pa., on Tuesday, June 5 for the annual ‘Anthracite Assault’ which serves as the only combined Halmar International North Region and Velocita-USA South Region program of the season for the STSS Modifieds. Also on the program are STSS Open Sportsman (Round No. 1) and XCel 600 Modifieds.

Big Diamond is Event No. 4 of the Velocita-USA South Region and the second stop of the weather-marred Halmar International North Region.

Thunder Mountain Speedway is located at 91 Hunts Corners Road Center Lisle, NY 13797, approximately 25 miles north of Binghamton. The three-eighths-mile clay oval features hillside concrete seating, free parking and camping, a variety of concession items and novelties, a family environment and more.
