Will There Be A Record $57,500 Champion? The Chase Begins March 16-17 At Georgetown Speedway

By | News | No Comments

MILLSBORO, DE – Will there be a $57,500 champion in 2018?

Race fans can witness this historic chase get underway on March 16-17 when the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco opens its season with the Melvin L. Joseph Memorial Weekend at Delaware’s Georgetown Speedway.

Thanks to the efforts of Sunoco Race Fuels and Insinger Performance, the STSS offers the most lucrative champion’s share in the country for big-block/small-block Modified racers this season.

Series management has announced the STSS Halmar International North Region championship will offer $12,500 for 10 races, while the eight-race Velocita-USA South Region title pays $10,000.

The ‘home-track’ American Racer Cup presented by Sunoco pays $10,000 to the overall champion based upon a driver’s 10 best finishes at their respective home track utilizing American Racer tires.

Now – via a partnership with Sunoco and Insinger Performance proprietor Bruce Insinger – very healthy bonuses are available to competitors.

Should a driver win the American Racer Cup overall crown and both the STSS North and South Regions, they will receive a cash bonus of $25,000!

This ‘Grand Champion’ would be in line to collect a massive $57,500 at year-end.

A $10,000 cash bonus awaits should a driver win the American Racer Cup plus the STSS North or South Region.

The richest season in history is approaching quickly.

For the STSS Velocita-USA South Region, the Season Opener is Saturday, March 17 at Georgetown with the Melvin L. Joseph Memorial, a 49-lap, $6,949-to-win event that also serves as the 50th race in series history.

The Halmar International North Region gets its start at N.Y.’s Orange County Fair Speedway on Sunday, April 8 with the fifth annual ‘Hard Clay Open’ offering $5,000 to win for 50 laps around the Legendary House of Power.

Points begin to tabulate for the American Racer Cup on April 13, running through Labor Day Weekend (Monday, Sept. 3).

Algonkin Motel Sponsors ‘Lap Down, Go-Around’ At All 2018 Short Track Super Series Modified Events

By | News | No Comments

BAINBRIDGE, NY – For the 2018 Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco, there will be a ‘second chance’ for drivers falling a lap down.

Algonkin Motel of Bainbridge, N.Y., will present the ‘Lap Down, Go Around’ at all STSS Modified events in both the Halmar International North Region and Velocita-USA South Region.

The ‘Lap Down, Go Around’ will allow the top-running driver one (or more) laps down at the time of a caution to circle past the leaders and make up one lap. The driver necessitating the caution will not be eligible for the wave around during the ensuing yellow flag period.

“Since we started the series, we’ve always dropped the lapped cars to the tail of the field in the order they are running,” STSS organizer Brett Deyo said. “It’s been a great courtesy to our lead-lap cars, but it does take away all opportunity for a driver that gets trapped a lap down early or loses a lap with a flat tire the chance to race their way back on the lead lap.

“More than once last year we had a lapped car running faster than the leader but each yellow they’d have to drop to the rear.  The ‘Lap Down, Go Around’ concept is a straight-up, fair way to address this.”

Algonkin Motel has signed up to sponsor the ‘Lap Down, Go Around’ this season. The Algonkin Motel is located off Interstate 88 between Bainbridge and Sidney. It is a family owned and operated motel offering a clean, quiet unique stay with affordable rates year-round.

All rooms have been renovated with amenities to include LCD televisions, free high-speed internet, microwaves and refrigerators in every room.  To learn more, visit www.algonkinmotel.com or call 607.967.5911 ext. 27.

The Algonkin Motel is owned and operated by Jamie and Denise Page, who field the No. 6H Modified driven by J.R. Hurlburt on the STSS North Region.
