Short Track Super Series Invades Bridgeport Speedway Saturday for ‘Dirty Jersey 5’ with Large Payout & $10,000 Championship Looming

By | News | No Comments

BRIDGEPORT, NJ – A purse structure of more than $25,000 and a $10,000 championship looming will provide plenty of motivation for racers when the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By VP roars into Bridgeport Speedway this Saturday, September 30.

Just two events remain on the STSS Velocita South Region schedule for 2017, including Saturday’s ‘Dirty Jersey 5’ 40-lap event at Bridgeport paying $5,000 to win, $1,000 for 10th and $400 to take the green.

Ryan Watt, Bridgeport’s champion, sits atop the STSS South standings by just a single marker over Stewart Friesen. Duane Howard, the most recent series winner at Georgetown (Del.) Speedway in late-August, is just 12 markers removed from the top spot.

Bridgeport will serve as the final “100-point” race on the schedule. After this seventh of eight STSS rounds, a driver’s worst finish will be dropped and 75 points will be added for perfect attendance entering the 150-point finale at Georgetown October 27-28.

A host of STSS series travelers will hit the Bridgeport five-eighths-mile Saturday including Watt, Howard, Jimmy Horton, David Van Horn Jr., Ryan Godown, Jordan Watson, Billy Pauch Sr. and Jr., Craig Von Dohren, Brett Kressley, Jim Britt, Jeff Strunk and more.

From the north, Massachusetts driver Andy Bachetti and New York’s Anthony Perrego plan to battle at the South Jersey facility.

Bridgeport’s regulars, of course, will look to defend their home turf with big money on the line.

A two-night American Racer ‘Southern Swing’ point fund will be paid at Bridgeport, comprised of Friday night’s ‘September Showdown’ at Georgetown and Saturday’s ‘Dirty Jersey 5’ as follows: 1) $500 – 2) $400 – 3) $300 – 4) $200 – 5) $100. The finish Saturday at Bridgeport will be used as the tiebreaker.

Completing Saturday’s program are the Crate/Sportsman and Outlaw Stocks.

Pit gates open at 3 p.m. Grandstand gates are unlocked at 4 p.m. The drivers’ meeting takes place at 5 p.m., with hot laps at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6:30 p.m.

Adult grandstand admission is $25 (ages 16 and up), $10 (Students ages 10-15) and Kids 9 and under are FREE. Pit admission is $35, with no license required.

NJ Track Champions Billy Pauch Jr. (New Egypt) and Ryan Watt (Bridgeport) Headed To American Racer Cup Short Track SuperNationals 10 At Afton Motorsports Park

By | News | No Comments

AFTON, NY – New Jersey’s two operating dirt tracks will see their champions in Empire State action on Columbus Day weekend.

Both Billy Pauch Jr., the New Egypt (N.J.) Speedway champion, and Ryan Watt, the point title winner at Bridgeport (N.J.) Speedway, have set plans to compete in the American Racer Cup Short Track SuperNationals 10 taking place October 6-7 at Afton Motorsports Park.

The Modified portion of the program goes green on Saturday, featuring the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By VP Halmar International North Region.

STSS Modifieds battle for 50 laps paying $5,000-plus to win and $400 to take the green flag for the “Working Man’s Race” 10th anniversary.

Milford, N.J.’s Pauch Jr. won the New Egypt title driving Rick Holsten’s No. 96. At Afton, however, he will be at the controls of the Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz No. 51 open small-block.

Watt, of Boyertown, Pa., is set to do battle with his familiar Ron Roberts-owned No. 14W, powered by an open small-block engine.

Pauch Jr. has never turned a lap at Afton. He was on hand last year for the Saturday portion of the SuperNationals, but rain forced the event to a Sunday rain date and he was unable to return.

Watt last competed at Afton in 2014, running in both the July ‘Crazy 8s Special’ and October Short Track SuperNationals.

In nine Short Track SuperNationals Modified events, there have been no repeat winners. Both Pauch Jr. and Watt will be looking to add their names to the list October 7!

Joining the STSS Modifieds and American Racer Modified Champion’s Match Races on Saturday (Oct. 7) are Street Stocks receiving $1,000 to win courtesy of Trackside Products plus a Champion’s Dash for Street Stocks paying $500 to win thanks to Lias Tire, IMCA Modifieds ($400 to win) and Vintage Modifieds.

Nine Events, Nine Short Track SuperNationals Modified Winners; 10th “Working Man’s Race” Victor October 7?

By | News | No Comments

AFTON, NY – In nine editions, the ‘Working Man’s Race’ has lived up to its name.

Nine big-block/small-block Modified races, nine different winners.

On Friday-Saturday, October 6-7, the American Racer Cup Short Track SuperNationals celebrates its 10th anniversary at Afton Motorsports Park. The Modifieds run 50 laps – $5,000 to win, $400 to start – offering points toward the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By VP Halmar International North Region.

The Modified portion of the program, as it has been since the inaugural at Afton in 2006, will be contested on Saturday of the weekend-long event.

Will a 10th winner be established this year?

Tillson, N.Y., short-tracker Mike Ricci bested the field in the ’06 first edition of the ‘Working Man’s Race’ driving for Jim Winchell, which set the precedent for SuperNationals to come.

The second SuperNationals (2009) went to Boyertown, Pa., driver Kevin Hirthler, a regular at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa.

Justin Holland, a relative Modified upstart from Kauneonga Lake, N.Y., put his name on the map with a huge upset win in 2010.

Taking the top honors back home to Pennsylvania in 2011, Duane Howard of Oley, Pa., bested a massive field with the Mike Petruska-owned No. 66.

“Showtime” Danny Tyler of Cottekill, N.Y., made the Accord (N.Y.) Speedway faithful proud during the 2012 running, which was completed despite rain through midday.

Representing the Capital District, Fonda (N.Y.) Speedway mainstay Craig Hanson made his first SuperNationals start in 2013 and walked off with the most prolific win of his career.

In 2014, the event returned to its birthplace on the Afton Fairgrounds. Masonville, N.Y.’s Shaun Walker, who actually made his Modified debut in the 2006 running, worked the low line to Victory Lane.

A year later in 2015, Wurtsboro, N.Y.’s Danny Creeden drove to a hotly contested triumph as the ‘DC Express’ built his name as a contender in major Southern Tier events.

The ‘Ringoes Rocket’ Ryan Godown became the first New Jersey based driver to win the SuperNationals in a rain-postponed 2016 version. Godown passed track champ Andy Bachetti in a 50-lap event that spun off green-to-checkered with no cautions.

A talented and diverse field of Modifieds will again congregate as the “Working Man’s Race” turns 10 at Afton Motorsports Park.

Two full days of racing are on the docket at the fairgrounds oval.

The Saturday (October) program is headlined by the 50-lap STSS Modified showcase.

New for 2017: the American Racer Cup Modified track champions are invited for one-on-one Match Races. All participants receive a certificate for a FREE tire. The winner takes home a cool $2,000!

STSS Modified registration is open at: http://bdmotorsportsmedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/STSNModifiedEntry.pdf

The Street Stocks will battle 20 laps for a $1,000 winner’s share thanks to sponsor Trackside Products.

New this year, Street Stock champions from area speedways are invited for a 15-lap Dash paying $500 cash to win. All participants will receive a certificate for a FREE tire.

Also on the Saturday card are the IMCA-Modifieds ($400 to win, $75 to start) and Vintage Modifieds.

On Friday night (October 6), STSS Sportsman take the spotlight in a 35-lap main offering $1,500 to the winner (*with $20 “Gambler’s Fee” posted, $1,000 without) and $125 to take the green. This is the final of five STSS Sportsman races in 2017 and a champion will be crowned.

American Racer Cup Sportsman track champions are invited for one-on-one Match Racers. All participants receive a certificate for a FREE tire. The winner receives $1,000 cash!

STSS Sportsman registration is open at: http://bdmotorsportsmedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/STSNSportsmanEntry.pdf

The CRSA Sprint Cars will make their second SuperNationals appearance on Friday, joined by FWD Four Cylinders racing for $250 to win and $40 to take the green flag.

Modifieds and Street Stocks will be invited to practice on Friday night in advance of their Saturday events.
