Assault-2017-Postponed

Big Diamond Speedway Short Track Super Series ‘Anthracite Assault’ Postponed To Sunday, July 16 Due To Rain, Ominous Forecast

By | News | No Comments

MINERSVILLE, PA – The annual ‘Anthracite Assault’ at Big Diamond Speedway has fallen to a forecast of significant rainfall in Pennsylvania’s Schuylkill County for Tuesday, June 6.

Facing a 90-percent chance of rain and thunderstorms throughout the day and evening, Big Diamond management and Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP organizers have postponed the event to Sunday, July 16.

The decision was made Monday evening in the interest of race teams traveling long distances to compete.

The ‘Anthracite Assault’ is unique in the only STSS event each year offering points toward both the Halmar International North Region and Velocita-USA South Region championship battles.

“Knowing this is a combination event and teams will be traveling long distances from both the north and south, we decided to make the decision early,” said STSS coordinator Brett Deyo. “The forecast has trended increasingly worse. Hopefully we can save some time off for our racers and fans by making this announcement.”

The program will move in its entirety to July 16, headlined by the 50-lap STSS Modified main paying $5,000 to win, $1,000 for 10th and $400 to take the green flag.

STSS Sportsman battle 25 laps for a $1,000 payday ($125 to take the green flag) and Big Diamond’s full-fender Roadrunners take part in a points-paying main event on the docket, as well.

Unique to this event, Modifieds will utilize sail panels for the ‘Anthracite Assault’ – the only time all season at the three-eighths-mile oval.

Rules, prices, times and general information for the ‘Anthracite Assault’ have been posted on the STSS website: http://bdmotorsportsmedia.com/anthracite-assault-rules-prices-general-info/

Big Diamond Speedway is a three-eighths-mile clay oval located in Minersville, Pa., just miles from Pottsville. The facility offers free parking, state-of-the-art concession areas and restrooms and not a “bad seat” in the house, with hillside grandstands overlooking the on-track action. The speedway GPS address is 392 Forest Lane Pottsville, PA 17901. The official website is www.bigdspeedway.com.

Return of Kenny Brightbill To Modified Racing Takes Place Thursday, June 15 At Rescheduled Delaware International Speedway STSS ‘Diamond State 50’

By | News | No Comments

DELMAR, DE – The return of Kenny Brightbill to dirt Modified racing serves as a highlight of the rescheduled ‘Diamond State 50’ at Delaware International Speedway next Thursday, June 15.

The annual Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By VP stop to the Cathell family’s facility had been scheduled as a kickoff to Memorial Day weekend on May 25. However, rain forced the event’s postponement to June 15, headlined by a 50-lap big-block/small-block Modified main event offering $5,000-plus to the winner, $1,000 for 10th and $400 just to take the green flag.

The ‘Diamond State 50’ offers points toward the lucrative $10,000 STSS Velocita-USA South Region championship.

Living legend Brightbill, of Sinking Spring, Pa., with more than 440 career feature wins, will strap into a Keith Coulbourne-owned No. 55 at Delaware International. Brightbill is celebrating his 50th season of competition and 2017 is expected to be his last as a driver.

While he competes regularly in SpeedSTR racing at Action Track USA in Kutztown, Pa., a return to Modified racing was welcomed by Brightbill.

“It was like he never left,” offered Coulbourne, with whom Brightbill teamed to win five races and the ’10 Delaware International Speedway Modified championship. “He came down to get fitted in the car and as soon as he climbed in, he had a big smile on his face.”

Brightbill will drive as a teammate to Coulbourne’s regular driver Kevin Sockriter, who won his first Modified feature last year at Delaware International.

Brightbill’s most recent win in a Modified came on June 4, 2011 at Delaware International. He has since won in a SpeedSTR.

Joining the STSS Modifieds at Delaware International are the Crate 602 Sportsman, Delaware Super Trucks and Delmarva Chargers.
